Jet Ski / Wave Runner Injuries

Personal Watercraft Injury Attorney

Unfortunately injuries on personal watercraft (PWC) are common across the country and in Texas. Tragedies on the water are likely to increase as the number of recreational vessels or “jet skis” increase. Wave runners, jet skis, and runabouts are found on the vast majority of lakes, rivers, and bays. Consumer safety often gets left behind in the race to put to the newer, faster, more powerful product on the market. The personal watercraft may have warning and design defects resulting in injuries.

Know your legal rights for injuries you or a loved one suffered while riding on a jet ski, wave runner, sea doo or other personal watercraft. Call Tony Malley, Attorney at Law , at 888-983-4888 or e-mail me for a free initial consultation

Injuries Which Can Result From a Defective Jet Ski or Wave Runner

Sadly, operators and passengers of personal watercraft die every year. Some of these deaths are because of operator error, the negligence of another on the water, or the result of a defect in the wave runner or jet ski.

The ever increasing speed and weight of the watercraft on the market leads to catastrophic bodily injuries. Personal watercraft are powered by internal engines which release jet thrust or jet stream that can cause horrible, mutilating injuries to jet skiers. The jet stream can enter the orifice or opening of the body and cause damage to the internal organs.

In California, a woman brought claims against Polaris Industries because the high pressure stream of water from the watercraft entered her body and tore apart her internal organs. She uses a colostomy bag, has a catheter, and has body parts permanently numb from the nerve damage. She was riding on a Polaris SLH-700 personal watercraft. She fell off the back of the watercraft and immediately she was vomiting. Evidence was provided that showed she fell less than a foot from the jet nozzle. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the injured woman.

Recently, a young woman in Texas fell off the back of a Sea-Doo and the water stream caused massive injuries to her lower abdomen. The claims against Bombardier, the maker of Sea-Doo, assert there is not anything to prevent a person from falling off the rear directly in front of the jet stream thrust.
