Sea-Doo Accident Injuries
Accidents involving Sea-Doo watercraft are extremely dangerous and can result in devastating injuries and death. Sea-Doo, Jet Ski and other personal watercraft are known as the motorcycles of the water, because they are small and can reach high speeds. Despite the ability to create a rush, personal watercraft can be dangerous and way too powerful for inexperienced, reckless drivers.
If you or someone you love has been seriously injured or killed in a Sea-Doo or another personal watercraft accident, you may be eligible to seek compensation. Contact Tony Malley, Attorney at Law for a free case review. He represents injured persons and families in Texas and across the country.
Sea-Doo Injuries
Watercraft operators and passengers are injured in Sea-Doo accidents every year. There are several factors that can cause a personal watercraft accident, including:
- Operator error, inexperience, not paying attention
- Reckless speeding
- Negligence of another watercraft operator
- Unsafe design or defects in the watercraft
Examples of Recent Sea-Doo Accidents
A woman in Texas suffered serious internal injuries when she fell off the back of a Sea-Doo and the thrust of water from the jet forced water into her body cavities. The water intrusion caused severe injuries to her organs and colon. The young woman filed a lawsuit on Aug. 31, 2011 against Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc., alleging that the defendant companies knew of the potential risks and failed to provide adequate restraints or other safety equipment that would prevent a third passenger from falling backwards.
Three other women were killed on Oct. 15, 2011 while riding on a Sea-Doo jet ski at Bonelli Regional Park in Sam Dimas, California. According to the Los Angeles Times, the three women were killed when the Sea-Doo they were riding crashed into a powerboat. Four people on the boat they crashed into were injured. The cause is being investigated.
Defective Sea-Doo Accidents
Individuals that are injured from accidents caused by defective parts can bring lawsuits against the manufacturer. An example of this is a lawsuit that was brought against BRP for an explosion of a Sea-Doo watercraft a couple years ago. The lawsuit alleged that the manufacturer ignored and attempted to cover up the fact that there were cracks in the fuel tank systems' filler necks. Four Sea-Doo explosions resulted from the defective fuel tanks, lawsuits alleged.
